Geelong is known as the City by the Bay and finally it’s earned that name. The waterfront region is a credit to Geelong lifting it to visitor standards comparable to anywhere in Australia. Eastern Beach was renovated and revamped and now has a cafe, a restaurant, and a takeaway. Surrounded by parkland Eastern Beach offers a haven for swimmers with a children’s pool with central fountain and a larger swimming pool with slides and diving pools. It’s like a seawater swimming complex.
I have also been visiting the beaches of Rippleside, St Helens and Western Beach. Little known to people out of Geelong theses beaches have been regular swimming beaches for many decades to the local residents. The beaches have had their ups and downs as Geelong grew and grew but seem to be getting some much needed work to bring them back to their former glory.
Geelong is a large city with impressive shopping centres, dining galore and plenty to keep you entertained. It is the gateway to the Great Ocean Road and the Bellarine Peninsula and the perfect place to base yourself for the perfect getaway or vacation.
