Located on the outskirts of Warrnambool in Allansford is Cheese World. If you are having trouble figuring out what this place slap bang in the middle of the South West dairy region is all about the let me inform you – it’s CHEESE!
I realise not everyone is excited by cheese – although I am – but there is a lot more on offer than just a world of cheese. Let’s start with the obvious. There is a lot of locally made cheese on offer with one of my favorites being the wasabi cheese. There are regular tastings but you may want to check beforehand on times so you don’t miss out. There is also a very good selection of wines so you can head back home with your evening essentials.
Cheese World has a large cafe which specialises in cheese platters and Ploughman’s lunches. It is open for breakfast, lunch and snacks. As you are in dairy country you absolutely must try a milkshake using local product.
If you are not into dairy there is plenty on offer including the Cheese World Museum. The museum shows off the equipment and household items used in the early 1900s. Great for both adults and children. Its free so no strain on the family budget there. It is also a way of showing how the Warrnambool Cheese & Butter Factory (owners of Cheese World) have been involved in the local area since 1888. Only 10 minutes out of Warrnambool so it is well worth the effort.
